First data points validated

November 05, 2020

Our See it - Snap it - Save it community of citizen scientist have been snapping deforestation spots throughout the country since the soft launch of the app in August 2020. Due to COVID-19 the app was not launched nationally yet. However, a group of nature enthusiasts have shown to be early adopters of this new technology and new method to actively contribute in protecting our forest. We are especially gratufull to the United Tour Guides Suriname for their support in testing the app extensively. With their feedback we will keep enhancing the app for optimal user experience and to enhance correct data entries.

Untill the end of October a total of 159 spots were SNAPped. These spots, collected in the Green Growth Forests app, have now been validated and could be used for research and/or policy-making. Please feel free to download the data file. This includes entry points and subscriptions of the location. When you use the data in your research, we appreciate you referencing the app.
